Born from Ceylon's Fire - The story behind this necklace

It was a medical conference in Colombo that brought me to Sri Lanka, but the island had far grander plans for me. Between sessions, I escaped into the hill country — hiking Ella Rock, wandering through Kandy's tea terraces, and chasing the thing that had captivated me most about this place: its legendary gemstones.

A conference organizer pointed me toward a small stone-cutting shop off the main road. The owner, a soft-spoken craftsman whose family had worked Ceylon's stones for generations, spread a cloth of rubies across the counter and began to teach me. He explained how Sri Lanka's rubies are unlike any others — their color shifts, bleeds, transforms. "We call it ombre," he said, holding one to the light. "The stone cannot decide between sunset and fire. So it becomes both."

Those words stayed with me, and the result is this necklace. A cascade of faceted rubies in every shade between blush and crimson, anchored by an ethically made lab-created diamond, set in warm 14K gold, and handcrafted with the same patience that craftsman showed me over that cloth of stones.
